The REDZONE highlights freedom of expression through the arts. REDZONE is an annual event initiated and funded by KKV in collaboration with the Norwegian ministry of foreign affairs.
The REDZONE festival which happens simultanously in Tunis and Beirut is organized by Cultural Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy) in partnership with local venues, when REDZONE is arranged in the Middle East.
Every second year the festival happens in Oslo. The years in between it takes place in countries with tougher challenges concerning the freedom of expression.
In 2014, the first year the festival was arranged outside of Oslo, it happened in Cairo and Beirut, and the shows and exhibitions were presented in both cities as a part of the Spring Festival in May. Due to the political development in the region it was moved to Tunis and Beirut in 2016, still under the umbrella of the Spring Festival in both cities. Mawred and KKV are currently discussing the further steps.
The Syrian/American Hip-Hop artist Omar Offendum was the opening act at the Redzone festival 2016 in Tunis on saturday (May 7). On wednesday May 11 2016 Omar Offendum plays at Radio Beirut.
