Solfrid Molland came across a beautiful Russian Romani melody and asked Erik Hillestad to give it lyrics that could be suitable for the Christmas season.

Erik used the story of young Mary giving birth to her baby in a stable for inspiration. Recalling an incident some years back when a young Romani woman started giving birth on the front steps of Kulturkirken Jakob in Oslo, and had to be sent to hospital, he wrote a modern story about a Romani woman giving birth in the harsh winter under a bridge in Oslo.

The song was recorded at Studio Intim in Oslo with Geir Sundstøl on guitar and mandolin, Daniel Lazar on violin, Jo Skaansar on bass and Solfrid Molland on accordion and vocals. It was released in collaboration with the Diakonhjemmet Foundation in Oslo, which used it as its digital meditation booklet for Christmas 2021.
