Mighty Sam McClain - Time and Change - Last recordings
Mighty Sam McClain never experienced the release of his last album “Time and Change”, which contains his 11 last produced tracks. The legendary blues- and soul performer passed away in New Hampshire June 15, 2015 by the age of 72. Except one song, written by Sam’s friend and mentor Melvin Underwood, the songs on this album are written and produced by Sam himself in cooperation with the multi instrumentalist Pat Herlehy, his musical partner through many years. This isn’t one of those somber “memorial” albums. Sam would not have wanted that. He wanted to be remembered with the same kind of spirit and energy he put into his music, on countless stages and recording sessions around the world. On “Time and Change” you may enjoy the last works from the great Mighty Sam McClain. Through the last seven years of his life, Mighty Sam McClain did some unique recordings and some touring in Scandinavia and the US together with Iranian singer Mahsa Vahdat. The two albums from this collaboration: “Scent of Reunion” (2009) and “A Deeper Tone of Longing” (2012) were both produced and released by the Norwegian record label KKV. So were also two albums with Mighty Sam McClain and the Norwegian guitarist Knut Reiersrud: “One Drop is Plenty” (2013) and “Tears of the World” (2015). The latter was awarded with a Norwegian Grammy. This strong connection with Norway is the reason why “Time and Change” now is released on KKV, based in Oslo. The record is distributed in the US by City Hall Records. The members of the band playing on “Time and Change” are Pat Herlehy (guitars, bass, sax and keyboards), Michael Rossi (bass), Rick Page (drums), Joe Deleault (keyboards and Hammond B3).
