Sarah Camille - Sarah Camille // Våkner i en annen dag
With the title “våkner i en annen dag” [Waking to another day]
Sarah Camille strikes an inquisitive tone, not unlike a child viewing the world and asking “Is that how it is?”
This is a playful project where the adult’s and the child’s views on life are in constant dialogue. Here the stories, instruments, languages and musical dialogue blossom and expand.
She tells us about vegetables that are colourful, the sun that is warming and melting the entire landscape, Barbie dolls in the bathtub, the accident in the housing association, the soft melody that feels so distant, the soil that is sad and ruined, best friends standing by a coffin, the colibri with the tiny drop of hope, each and every one carrying their burdens, aunt Aase in the mountains with the cloudberries.
So many different moments, yet somehow belonging together. The great in the small.
Sarah Camille’s expressive voice delivers the lyrics in a sound landscape straddling the borders between folk and world music. She has a unique team of musicians with her: Jørn Erik Ahlsen Alkanger on guitar, Sidiki Camara on percussion, ngoni and balafon, Jo Berger Myhre on bass, Tuva Færden on fiddle, vocals and lyre. The backing vocals provided by the Steiner School girls’ choir, and other guests, enhance the experience, reflecting the colourful and rich material.
Sarah Camille was awarded the Norwegian Spellemanns prize in 2020 in the “Children’s music category”, and in 2021 she presented a visionary album about movement, distance and belonging in “Vingeslag” [Beating wings].
On “våkner i en annen dag” she continues to play between different worlds, languages and expressions. Norwegian, Creole, French, Swahili, English and Bamanan, all floating with a unique ensemble of instruments and musicians in a boundless musical landscape.
The album was recorded and produced in Kulturkirken Jakob by Erik Hillestad.
