Randi Tytingvåg Trio - Roots & Wings
Roots & Wings is a cooperative venture between Tytingvåg, Dag S. Vagle and Erlend E. Aasland, calling themselves the Randi Tytingvåg Trio. They have been working together since 2013, and so far have released an EP and an album, and made several tours received with great acclaim in Norway and Germany. Together they have developed an acoustic format that blends elements of jazz, blues, roots, folk and country. With Roots & Wings they have developed and refined their expression and preserved it in the old-fashioned way, live in the studio, close together in a circle around old-style microphones; just like it was the 1960s. “We’re really a small chamber orchestra. Our main idea is the acoustic approach and playing closely together. The room we perform in also plays an important part in creating our expression,” Randi Tytingvåg says. In concerts, the trio performs around one microphone, a handmade LOUISE from Ear Trumpet Lab. The music and lyrics are written by Randi Tytingvåg, who is also the producer. Nils Økland plays the fiddle and Hardanger fiddle, and Knut Reiersrud plays lap steel, mouth organ and resonator. “These eminent guest musicians on the album are people I have admired for years. So, even though I invited them, it was with a sense of awe. I'm incredibly happy to have them with me!” Randi Tytingvåg has been awarded the State grant for artists in the category "Popular composers" for 2017.
