Inger Lise Rypdal - Ansikter [Faces]

She is one of the true veterans of Norwegian popular music, doubtlessly due to her vibrant voice, and for forty years Inger Lise Rypdal has given us songs we’ll never forget. After a long hiatus from recording due to other commitments and pursuits, she is now back with a new solo album.

Together with an exciting band Inger Lise Rypdal has made a stirring and moving CD with music by Karoline Krüger and Geir Holmsen, and lyrics by Erik Hillestad. The album “Faces” tells us stories of chance and fate – small existential portraits with undercurrents from Biblical motifs.

The musicians create a breathtaking musical arc, ranging from modern, electronically-based loops and programmed rhythms (Marius Rypdal) to the sounds from popular genres like the tango and fado, with their warm patina from another age (Atle Sponberg on the violin, Kåre Jostein Simonsen on the bandoneon, and Bettina Flater on the flamenco guitar). Gjermund Silset (bass) and Stein Austrud (piano), synthesizer and electrical piano) tie this all together.

The CD was recorded at Fagerborg Studio in Oslo, and mixed in Studio Nordraak by Martin Abrahamsen. The producer is Erik Hillestad.
