Since the end of the 1970s, KKV has been devoted to encouraging artists and the general public to popularise the singing of hymns.

Projects such as “Salmer på veien hjem” (Hymns on the way home) (Paus, Bremnes, Boine) and “Salmer på ville veier” (Hymns from the other side of the tracks) (Brøndboe) are two such examples. Now we are releasing “Salmer for Gud og hvermann” (Hymns for God and Mortals), another exciting recording featuring new interpretations of well-loved hymns, and also introducing music from some of our previously released CDs to a wider public. So this is both a new and a best-of record, gathering what we have done and looking forward.

Two artists, Bjørn Eidsvåg and Maria Solheim represent the new music. Bjørn Eidsvåg performs his immortal classic “Eg ser” (I see) with a choir and church organ in an arrangement by Iver Kleive. Maria Solheim performs an old hymn: “Jeg er i Herrens hender” (I am the servant of the Lord) and a new hymn: “Sangen om gleden” (The Song of Joy) by Sigvart Dagsland and Erik Hillestad. In this way she connects the officially accepted hymns with those that are widely used for spiritual purposes without having yet found their way into the official hymnbook. She is accompanied by her own band, and together they have created two exciting musical arrangements.

Among the hymns previously issued, this collection features highlights from hymn interpretations by Paus, Bremnes, Boine, Dagsland, Reiersrud and Kleive.
