Diverse artister - Conrad Baden og kirkerommet
Church music by Conrad Baden
In Grorud Church’s magnificent acoustics, several Norwegian artists have made recordings of a number of works composed by Conrad Baden.
These artists are Anne Gjevang, Astrid Hellesnes Hukvari, Brynjar Hoff, Harald Herresthal, Det Norske Solistkor, Nordstrand Kirkekor and more.
Torkil Baden about his father in the book "Norske Komponister" (“Norwegian composers”).
Conrad Baden is a type of person who, with fleeting familiarity on the outside, can seem a bit dry and possibly also emotionless. Those who know him know that this is a completely superficial impression. He is actually a person of strong feelings where outbursts of sadness and joy go inwards. He does not want to reveal himself as what he is, and tries to hide his innermost feelings. In the music, meanwhile, he has to come out with language, here his powers are unleashed, here he seeks human contact, here his innermost feelings are revealed to those who listen to and delve into the music.
Conrad was not so concerned that people of his time should like his music, but rather emphasized that the music should be of good enough quality to survive the forces of time.
