Nobody is dearer to the Scottish heart and soul than Robert Burns. His birthday is Scotland’s national day, and his famous “Auld Lang Syne” is cherished as the Scottish national hymn.

Living in the latter half of the 18th century, Robert Burns bolstered Scottish pride and national self- confidence at a time when the nation felt crushed by the English. As a poet and collector of folk songs, he has inspired the creative mind across the globe, from Lord Byron to Norwegian poet Henrik Wergeland, to John Steinbeck and Swedish troubadour Evert Taube. Many of his love songs are praised as some of the most beautiful that have ever been written. Alf Cranner has been a Burns devotee for 40 years and has spent years translating his songs into Norwegian. His aim has always been to preserve Burns’ down-to-earth, homely and unpretentious style, which made him so dear to the Scottish heart. When Cranner presented his project to KKV, we embraced it warmly, and in true KKV style we made a pilgrimage to Scotland, recording the album where Burns himself wandered, loved, drank and wrote poetry…

“Like a Rose ...” gives you 19 beautiful songs, including the tender and always popular “My Luve is Like a Red, Red, Rose”.

We promise an encounter with a burlesque, rustic, rough and tender poet with lively texts set to exquisitely beautiful melodies, and sung by one of Norway’s most prominent troubadours. All the songs have been delicately arranged by some of the most outstanding musicians in Norway.
